Good bike brands will usually remain as strong and stable as the day they were made but do not be tempted by cheaper second hand bikes from lesser brands as they will fall apart under you.
If you’re into surfing then getting a few second hand surfboards is a must. You’ll naturally find the best deals around costal areas where there is plenty of supply and shops often have a good range of them as well. There are many different surfing conditions and most wave junkies carry a selection of different surfboards at all time, buying second hand boards to complete their ‘quiver’. On top of this you can practice new moves or surf in different spots without being concerned about not doing any damage to your new board. Steer clear of any boards that have deep impact marks, cracks or any serious water damage.
Second hand kayaks can be considered a more sturdy beast altogether. There are often lots of used ones around in great nick as its really not that easy inflict serious damage on the hard shells. Do ask about their history though when buying one and most definitely do not buy any that have holes, however small. Holes will likely lead to further damage down the line and even if repaired are not worth risking
