Though we have heard a lot about steroids, most of us are unaware of what steroids are or what the side effects of using steroids are.

The synthetic male form of hormone testosterone is known as steroids. The hormone responsible for the growth and the development of muscles is testosterone. One can achieve a lot if this hormone is mixed with steroids such as increase the muscle mass, reduction in body fat, increase in the ability to endure and a lot more.

Not only do steroids give you strength, but steroids are also harmful. Steroids have both physical and psychological side effects. Although physically, steroids are known to provide muscle mass increase or endurance strength, it has harmful side effects as well. Physical side effects of steroids include damage to the liver, excessive hair loss, excessive hair growth, cancer, acne problem and testicular atrophy etc. Looking at the psychological side effects, steroids are responsible for an athlete’s range of moods. Nowadays, athletes use it because they believe it to be the inevitable path leading to fame but little do they acknowledge the fact that the side effects that can lead to permanent disability. Thus, common man questions whether steroids are worth it considering the rewards and its risk. In the long run, no matter what, regular intake of steroids will harm the athlete.

Many legendary baseball players have been surrounded by steroids controversies but no proof has come up to prove that steroids have been used by these players. Take for example Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield, Mark Mcwire and many others who have been surrounded by baseball and steroids controversies. Barry Bonds was accused of using steroids to set a record number of home runs in one season. He was accused of being provided steroids by his long time friend. The question that many raised was whether it was the use of steroids or that Barry had a dream season?

Until there is no proof one cannot say whether an athlete has used steroids or not. Whether using or not, an athlete still has to face the ball and hit it to get runs.

Steroids give many rewards to the athlete such as strength or fame but no matter what its side effects cannot be compromised with its use. The side effects can damage athlete physically permanently. Steroids are not worth using.
