Epson claim their latest multifunction inkjet the SX400 is “compact genius” I wouldn’t go quite that far but it is a solid versatile device. It uses a four colour, individual ink cartridge system which means of the cartridges can be changed independently of each other, this is important because a lot of printers in this category use tri-colour cartridges which waste remaining ink when only one colour has run out. Although the SX400 uses an economical ink system the price of the actual printer ink cartridges aren’t quite so economical as they cost nearly £30 for a full set. Thankfully there are compatible Epson SX400 ink cartridges available for half the price of the genuine Epson ink cartridges and this makes the SX400 a very attractive prospect in terms of running costs. In terms of performance the SX400 is very impressive with a long list of features all of which is performs to a good standard. The SX400’s strongest function is its printing which surpasses exceptions of a printer ink this price category, all the documents have a sharp crisp look to them whether you’re printing a standard page of text or a high resolution photographs. The scanner is cleverly incorporated into the SX400 with its low profile meaning it doesn’t take up much space and the SX400 remains very compact for a MFP. The scanner isn’t just for show however it scans at a maximum resolution of 1200 x 2400ppi which enables it to pick up even the smallest detail in scans when required. It also comes with photo editing software for breathing new life into old and tired looking photos. The SX400 has one more feature and that is a photocopier function which works without the need for a PC which is convenient when you need to copy something in a hurry and don’t have time to wait for the PC to boot up.
